Excursion description

The trip is not complete if you come to visit the Atacama salt flat and the millenary history that the ancestral inhabitants of its basin have left us is not closely known, rich and complex social and religious cultures permanently speak to us of a worldview that they share with other Andean cultures, by means of which they give us an example of integration with the environment and respect for both nature and its deep beliefs, but also their particular connection to the forced interculturation processes typical of colonizations and invasions of which they were subjected, processes against which there is still an inextinguishable resistance that is manifested through the rites and beliefs that the original inhabitants continue to profess to this day.

For this and for its generous, ancient and complex human footprint, San Pedro de Atacama is known as "the archaeological capital of Chile", because together with its surroundings it offers cultural tourism a unique opportunity to know the ways of life and beliefs of its ancestral inhabitants, who populated and developed their millenary culture in the different streams, ayllus and villages settled around the Atacama salt flat. This is how this tour will allow you to know classics such as the Pukará de Quitor, the Inca administrative remains (Tambo of Catarpe) and the old church of Catarpe, a landmark of the hispanic colonization, and then continue, after a break in San Pedro, towards the Tulor village whose vestiges mark the beginning of the first definitive human settlement in this part of the planet and thanks to it the consolidation of the beginning of agriculture. But we cannot finish this formidable journey through past and present history, without first knowing the testimony offered by the living ruins of the Beter Indian Village and its immeasurable historical vestige that, like an open museum, tells us about the complex coexistence that the progressive consolidation of the spanish colonization.
